Budget hotel chains such as Travelodge, PremierInn and Ibis have several hotels in Carlisle, Cumbria, England, and all of them offer wheelchair accessible accommodations.

Travelodge has a hotel in the South and North of Carlisle. Both hotels are located off on the M6 (both with accessible parking bays), and one in the centre of the city(with no parking). All of the hotels have level access and accessible rooms. As each hotel is different, please confirm the bathroom layout with the hotel before booking.

Premier Inn has 4 hotels in Carlisle. One by Junction 42 of the M6, one by Junction 43 of the M6 and one by Junction 44 of the M6. All of these have accessible parking bays. The fourth hotel is approximately 1.5 miles north of the city centre, with accessible parking bays and easy access into the city centre via bus (the bus stop is nearby). All hotels have level access and accessible rooms. There is a restaurant available at each hotel. As each hotel is different, please confirm the bathroom layout with the hotel before booking.

The Ibis Hotel on Botchergate, (the street where most of the bars are), has 5 accessible rooms, and paid for parking is available nearby. As each hotel is different, please confirm the bathroom layout with the hotel before booking.

Halston Apart Hotel is an independent option. This hotel offers self-catering accommodation with a hotel feel in Carlisle City Centre. The building houses a bar and bistro and a fully equipped spa. There are 2 wheelchair accessible rooms available. The hotel has level access at the front and rear entrances and a wheelchair lift to the access rooms, to retain the original stairway. From the lift, access to the room is through a set of double doors, which may be difficult to open without assistance. The apartment has a kitchen area, dining area, and bedroom(s) with just enough space to maneuver next to the bed. The walk/wheel-in shower is barrier-free and shower stools are available on request, but there are no grab-rails. Two accessible parking bays are available next to the hotel. The hotel has an access statement on its website.

I'm Claire. I live in Cumbria, in North West England, near the beautiful lake district and a short distance from Hadrian's Wall and Scotland. I've used a wheelchair since 1999, as I have a bone condition. I mainly use a manual wheelchair, but due to repeated soft tissue problems I use a power wheelchair for distance too. I love exploring the world and have been to some amazing places including Europe, Cuba, and this year a tour of the American Canyons. I hope you enjoy my articles, and find them useful.
