Itinerary: Accessible California Wine Country Tour

Overview

  • 7-day tour (may add more days) exploring the culture, outdoor activities and must-see attractions in San Francisco, the Sonoma Wine Country and the coastal village of Mendocino.
  • Activities/Attractions are accessible without or with minimal physical assistance and catered to the the interests of the group.
  • Restaurants/Eateries have been chosen because they  provide excellent food in a unique setting that will reflect the culinary culture of the region. Complimentary snacks and refreshments are provided everyday. (Please notify us of any dietary or food allergies.)
  • Accommodations/Hotels have been pre-selected and are an equivalent to a 3-star accommodation or better.
  • Transportation is accessible but varies depending on group size, mobility equipment, etc.
  • Do MORE! Before or after the tour visit more neighborhoods and attractions; go kayaking, hiking, biking or sailing; take a boat or hot air balloon ride or even a cooking class; enjoy a music or theatrical performance; taste more food and wine; attend a special/seasonal or sporting event; go shopping and more.
  • Included: All activities, accommodations, transportation and meals [ breakfast (B), lunch (L) and dinner (D) ] as outlined in the itinerary below. We also provide adaptive equipment such as a hand-held shower nozzle and transfer bench. (Please inform us of any special needs or equipment that would improve your safety and comfort.) We reserve the right to adapt the overall structure of the tour based on season, the weather, the desires of the travelers, etc.
  • Not Included: All other meals, transportation, activities not mentioned, as well as airfare to and from San Francisco, travel insurance, personal expenses, souvenirs, equipment rental, etc. Equipment such as scooters, walkers and personal lifts are not included but can be rented for an additional fee.

 Price and Payment Structure: (Based on 7-Day Tour)

    • For groups of 8-14 = $3,290 per person in double room occupancy; for single room occupancy add = $970
    • $350 USD non-refundable deposit to reserve
    • 50% due no later than 45 days prior tour start date
    • Remaining balance due 30 days prior to tour start date

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in San Francisco (D)

  • Arrive at the San Francisco Airport (SFO) and get accessible transportation to hotel**
  • Check-in at the hotel
  • Welcome reception with snacks and refreshments led by Ashley Olson and Tapooz Travel
  • A presentation about the tour along with the distribution of detailed itinerary packages
  • Depending on the time and group,  we will start with a motorized tour of San Francisco to see the main landmarks of the City by the Bay: Coit Tower, Lombard Street, Crissy Field, Fort Point, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Presidio, Golden Gate Park, and more
  • Sleep at a hotel in San Francisco

** If not arriving before the start of the tour date, then flights should be schedule to arrive to SFO in the morning or early afternoon before 2pm to ensure time for activities on the first day.

Day 2: San Francisco (B)

  • Morning: Special guided tour of a colorful and classic neighborhood in San Francisco
  • After lunch we enjoy a unique way of sightseeing city such as ride on the BayVoyager or a tour in a GoCar
  • After dinner we enjoy a night out experience such as a theater performance or a tour of Alcatraz
  • Sleep at a hotel in San Francisco

Day 3: Wines and Foods of Sonoma County (B and L or D)

  • Morning: Check-out from the hotel and leave San Francisco
  • Drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and stop for views of the bridge and SF
  • Drive through small country roads and have lunch in a historic wine town followed by exploring the local shops and galleries of artists
  • In the afternoon, we enjoy a tour of local wineries and learn about the wine from the winemakers, which ends at the Francis Ford Coppola Winery where Coppola’s impressive personal collection of movie artifacts can be viewed on display
  • Dinner will be locally inspired and carefully selected, such as Rustic at the Coppola Winery or the famous mouth-watering Ranch and BBQ in Cloverdale
  • Sleep at a hotel in the Cloverdale/Healdsburg area

Day 4: Anderson Valley to Mendocino  (B and L or D)

  • Morning: Check out from the hotel
  • From Cloverdale, we leisurely drive through the beautiful wine region of Anderson Valley, making multiple stops along the way to taste wine and ales from local micro-breweries
  • Followed by lunch is a little more wine and champagne tasting at unique local spots
  • Then we all go hiking in the ancient redwoods grove of Hendy Woods State Park
  • To reach the Pacific Coast, we traverse the beautiful eleven-mile drive through the Navarro River Redwoods State Park. We end the journey at the Victorian village of Mendocino where there are art galleries to explore and fudge to sample
  • Sleep at a hotel in the Mendocino/Fort Bragg area

Day 5: Mendocino and Fort Bragg Area  (B)

  • All day exploring the area with many options such as a historical fort, a lighthouse, art galleries, hot springs spas, massage, yoga, whale watching, kayaking, hiking, and taking advantage of any seasonal events
  • The theme for this day is to slow down and relax in order to fully appreciate the beauty of this unique place
  • Sleep at a hotel in the Mendocino/Fort Bragg area

Day 6: Down the North Coast to Bodega Bay (B)

  • Morning: Check-out from hotel
  • Then we drive down the Coastal Route no. 1 or Highway 1, one of the most beautiful drives in the US, and make multiple stops along the way to visit some tiny towns and a lighthouse
  • In the early afternoon the tour stops at Fort Ross Historic Park, an old Russian fort dating back to when Northern California was under the control of the Czar of Russia
  • In the late afternoon the tour reached the small town of Bodega Bay, a small fishing village made famous from the Hitchcock blockbuster movie “The Birds”
  • Check into the hotel in the Bodega Bay area
  • Sleep at a hotel in the Bodega Bay area

Day 7: Return to San Francisco (B)

  • Morning: Check-out from hotel
  • We continue driving south on the beautiful HW 1 to San Francisco with stops for incredible ocean views
  • Lunch is located at a small fishing town on the bay
  • We stop at Point Reyes Station for coffee, treats, boutiques and picturesque views
  • Dinner is at a colorful restaurant, a favorite among the locals, in the Nicasio area. 
  • We arrive late in late in San Francisco
  • Sleep at a hotel in San Francisco or return to the airport for departure
