Santa Monica Beach is one of my absolute favorite destinations in the greater Los Angeles area and one that the wheelchair traveler could easily spend a couple of days exploring and enjoying the ambiance and activities of this ocean front city.

The Beach Park runs along a cliff hugging Santa Monica Boulevard and Pacific Ocean Coast and is a lovely place for a stroll. Take advantage of the many restaurants in surrounding blocks or just enjoy the ocean's crisp breeze and salty air. Located at one end of the park is the famous Santa Monica Pier with carnival rides and games. At the end of the pier is a great Mexican restaurant called Mariasol.

The Ambrose Hotel in Santa Monica is a fabulously priced and eloquently designed for the function for the wheelchair traveler. 20 blocks from the ocean the Ambrose Hotels is conveniently located to wherever you want to travel to in the area. A lovely, complimentary continental breakfast is provided every morning. Although there is a large roll-in shower available upon advanced request the bench that is offered is very small and unstable for those with poor balance and the shower head was not hand-held; however, the two showers found in my room was practical.
