Located off Highway 1 about 45minutes from the San Francisco Airport is the quaint town of Bodega Bay. This costal destination is a perfect spot for a weekend get-a -way, secluded enough to fully unwind and enjoy the beautiful calming ambiance of the Pacific Ocean.

Bodega Bay Regional Park attracts campers and site-seers for its views of the ocean and lighthouse. A wheelchair accessible walkway runs along a portion of the bay. There is even a ramp down to the beach (below left photos); however, there is no beach wheelchair. Handicapped parking is available.

Sonoma Coast State Beach Vista Trail is located a little North of Bodega Bay off the Highway 1 freeway. This trail loops around for a mile surrounded by 272 acres of wildlife, including 2 miles of coastline. Besides the trail, it has wheelchair friendly picnic benches, restrooms, parking, and grab bars on a lookout bench.

Bodega Bay Lodge & Spa, is a wheelchair friendly place to rest your head and managed by a courteous and professional staff. Every evening the hotel hosts a wine and cheese H' ors D'oeuvres hour from 5-6pm in the lobby. Pathways around the hotels make it easy to get around, including one down to the pool and up to the spa (below photos). The main entrance to the restaurant is not accessible but signs direct one to an ADA back door with a power button. However, room service is available and costs the same as dining in.

There are different 5 handicapped rooms but only the Ocean Club Suite called the Snow Egret #705 has a roll-in shower. Since this is the only room available with such accommodations, the rate is the same as their standard rooms., which bonus upgrade. The suite is very spacious with lots of room to maneuver and the view of the bay from your own private patio is spectacular (above right photo.) The king size bed is very comfortable and warm. This suite also has a fireplace where guests get two logs per day to burn, cozy!

The bathroom is exceptionally large and includes a jacuzzi and two vanity sinks, one of them being a roll-up sink (below left photo). More importantly, there is a roll-in shower (below right photo) and a plastic shower available if you call guest services.

Anyone who has been to Bodega Bay and even the locals will tell you that "there's not much to do." Do not expect to find a strip mall, movie theater, or chain restaurants. Instead there are two kite and taffy shops (above photos), a surf store, and a small grocery market with a quality selections. There are a few restaurants, many found in the hotels and others through the town North on Highway 101. Next to the Candy & Kites store in the above left photo is local favorite, The Boat House (below photos), a family operated business serving up fresh seafood. The signature dish is BBQ oysters but there is also tasty items, like fish n' chip (below middle photo) and fish tacos.
